Personal Christmas present from Canon

So just after I got a raise this year Canon decided to implement a 5% pay cut, they have decided to end that reduction due to increased sales of cameras. Huzzah! That will certainly make a difference. I’ll be earning what I should have been earning for the last 6 months. Also they will be giving me a Christmas bonus. WOOT again! Much happiness unto me.

Personal Back from Africa

Well I’m back from Africa. It was a great trip and I guess I have a lot of writing to do about it. I’ll post about it when I get done with all the pictures I took. I am currently weeding out the bad ones and then I’ll figure out which ones are the best and make sure that they get seen.

Personal South Africa here I come.

So I may not post much for the next two weeks. I’m leaving for South Africa for two weeks of visiting family and taking pictures. The internet connections down there are pretty slow so I doubt I’ll have much access. I’ll post a bunch when I get back though.

house House inspection

I did the house inspection yesterday before work. It went pretty smoothly. The guy that did it, John Douglass from The BrickKicker, was very good. Admittedly, I’m not an expect on home inspections but he did go through everything and took his time. The package he put together for me was far more than what my parents got when they bought their house.

The house was built in 1941 so I wasn’t expecting a clean bill but I also wasn’t expecting anything major. The house looked in very good condition. Of course there was quite a bit of hope in that statement as I hadn’t done any crawling around under the house. Never know what you’re going to find down there. Luckily I was right and there were only small stuff. Some of it stupid simple stuff like a couple outlets having reversed polarity or no ground. Some of it will be a problem if I don’t do anything about it. Like open up the crawlspace vents, which currently are blocked by some sheeting. Without the cross ventilation there will be problems. There are a couple missing sections of trim at the top which isn’t a major issue, it’s easy to fix as it’s that aluminum sheet covering. Buying about 5 feet of it will do all the missing parts. There are rats which need to be taken care of as well as putting up some screens to keep them out of the dryer vent and the like. The inspection recommends that a gutter system be installed. The roof is in decent shape, even though there are a couple shingles missing in one spot.

The big thing is that the air con was stripped of its’ copper a while back. I’m going to see if I can get that taken care of but I don’t know how likely it will be. It’s a short sale and the owner seems to have run out of money. We’ll see what I can get.

But I am very happy that there aren’t any time bombs waiting to go off on me. I’m nearing the end and soon I shall have my own house.

house Under contract

Good news everyone! I got a call from my real estate agent today and the bank finally approved my offer for a house in Portsmouth. So it’s under contract now and I’ll be doing the home inspection and termite inspection on Friday. That will see if there is anything major that could throw the deal off the tracks but if it goes Ok with that then it’s on the road to closing. About time I put the offer in damn near a month ago.
