Science You are drinking pee.

You know I’m getting tired of this. The space station is getting a system installed that recycles urine into fresh drinking water. There are news articles all over everywhere that are all like “Oh my god teh Astronauts are going to be drinking pee. Oh noes!” Then they take a step back from the crazyness and try and explain it so that it’s actually not that bad. This is nothing more than reporters trying to catch people with a crazy headline. The same goes to all those ground based water purifiers to turn sewage into clean drinking water. And of course those always get greeted by the idiots screaming “I’m not going to drink anyone’s pee.” Well tough luck and too late you already are. That’s right every time you drink water or anything else that has water in it you are drinking dinosaur pee, or rat pee, or dog pee, or person pee, etc. There isn’t old water or new water. The water around today was around long before you, your family, even the planet. Those same atoms have been around for a long long time. So yes they’ve been used in many different processes. Including pee.

Water has certainly been around the block a few times. Of course it gets cleaned and recycled by the natural processes on earth over time just as it can be cleaned by artificial processes made by man. Of course we do it in far less time than nature does it. It’s not big deal. I’d drink the stuff so what, I don’t have any second thoughts on drinking water out of a tap or any other place I know to have clean water so I wouldn’t have any on water from those machines. Now of course if the machinery were to fail…

Making stuff BACON!!

Well, you know I’ve never really totally been a major fan of bacon. I know, I know… Heresy. Probably of the worse kind. At least since the internet phenomenon of bacon has taken hold. But wait before you try to burn me at the stake and make bacon from my burning flesh let me explain. Firstly I doubt  I do love bacon. I said I wasn’t a fan of bacon because you idiots here in America don’t know how to cook it, or make it. First of all it is much too thin. I think most people would agree with me. Second you burn the bacon. I should not be able to construct things with a meat product as easily as I can with linking logs. I like my bacon when I can grasp one end, pick it up, and the other end slowly sags until pointing straight down. The edges just crispy and the rest soft, warm, greasy, and wonderful. I also love Canadian Bacon, even though there’s really no such thing. Eating bacon that is so hard and crispy you can use them as drumsticks does not appeal.

Well now that I’m done with the fat I can get to the meat of the post. Making bacon! I should have your attention now. I saw this on Make and had to post about it because, well, when bacon is done right it is great. Here’s the direct link to the article on the BS Brewing blog. The blog also has a bunch of stuff about homebrewing. I shall be following this blog now it looks like a good read.
